Big Bang Art is an ongoing series based on my love of space, and the Big Bang Theory (creation of the universe, not a sitcom fetish!)
As an artist inspired by space, I am fascinated that everything we see was created out of nothing. How some quirky, quark clashed with another quarky, quirk and the universe was made. How head spinning is that!?!?
Anyhoo... I was inspired to produce a series of works that reflected that tiny, tiny moment in time. And so here is my input, my interpretation. A flick of paint and a series of conscious decisions of when the work needs more input or recognition of when it's finished and I call it a work of art.
In creating my Big Bang Art I use random processes that mean I am never 100% certain how an image will turn out. Initially I think many won't, but like bits of rock accreting into planets, my work evolves into a solidified piece of art. Each artwork unique yet often with shared attributes creating a cohesive body of work. A universe.
But I must stress, the Big Bang is an inspiration, a starting point. I am not attempting to recreate Nasa style images of the beginnings of the Universe. Frankly Nasa, does this better than anybody! Yet so often Space Art, Celestial Art, Cosmos Painting, Astrological Art, whatever you want to call it, in my opinion, attempts to present too literal an image. Yes my work has an explosive, spattered paint, galaxy element to it. But it is the process of how I apply the paint, how I allow colours to merge [or not] and accept the random outcome of the work that for me really embodies the Big Bang. A chance happening that created something beautiful.
